Riding Quads

To drive any off-road vehicle in Québec, users must comply to specific requirements depending on age or vehicle.

The minimal age required to drive an ATV is 16, and users aged 16 or 17 must have a Certificate of competence and knowledge, delivered by the FQCQ or by the Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec, on the exception that the driver has a valid license delivered by a recognized instance other than the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (i.e.: a driver’s license from Ontario).

In addition to procuring the necessary registrations, the driver must hold a minimum of $500,000 of third-party liability insurance covering any property and/or bodily damage causes by the use of an off-road vehicle.

Lastly, a trail permit must be purchased from a club, a dealership, authorized retailers or online. The permit allows the buyer to circulate in provincial trails throughout Québec and New-Brunswick, in accordance with inter-provincial reciprocal agreements.
